On this episode Eric McClanahan (Ain’t It Cool News/Collider) and I break down the feature film selections for this year’s Tribeca Festival including the opening night film, Diane Von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge about designer/fashion icon Diane Von Furstenberg.

The festival’s schedule is packed with documentaries like BRATS directed by Andrew McCarthy. In the film, McCarthy interviews his fellow Brat Pack alumni from such iconic 80s classics as Pretty in Pink, and St. Elmo’s Fire. Group Therapy is a documentary framed in the device of a group therapy session in which top comedians discuss mental health. Another documentary featuring comedians is Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution which features interviews with Eddie Izzard, Lily Tomlin, and Rosie O’Donnell.

Among the lineup are biographical documentaries like Linda Perry: Let It Die Here about recording artist/producer Linda Perry and LIZA: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story about superstar performer Liza Minnelli and Satisfied about Broadway star Renee Elise Goldsberry,

The festival will also showcase a number of fictional/narrative features including: Jazzy starring Lily Gladstone, who received an Oscar nomination for her work in Killers of the Flower Moon, and Sacramento, which stars Michael Cera. We interviewed him at last year’s festival for the indie feature The Adults.

Also included are Firebrand starring Alicia Vikander and Jude Law in a Tudor-era period piece, Winter Spring Summer or Fall, a coming of age dramedy starring Jenna Ortega, and the indie features The French Italian, Griffin In Summer, Bad Shabbos, Between the Temples, , The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer starring Steve Buscemi who spoke to us last year about his directorial effort The Listener, Lake George starring Carrie Coon, and Bang Bang starring Tim Blake Nelson.

Next week we’ll have more updates on the Tribeca Festival along with our featured interview with Debra Robinson who recently had two of her films restored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and screened at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, so be sure to subscribe on your favorite podcast platform or on YouTube.
