The Horror of Dolores Roach at the Tribeca Film Festival
by Jason Godbey
Our No Rest for the Fest coverage of the Tribeca Film Festival continues with The Horror of Dolores Roach a a new Amazon series inspired by Sweeney Todd starring Justina Machado and Alejandro Hernandez.
The Horror of Dolores Roach is a project with a rather interesting origin. It started out as a play by Aaron Mark performed by Daphne Rubin-Vega that was adapted into an audio series and released on Spotify. Dolores Roach Justina Machado) is an ex-con who’s come back home after 16 years of imprisonment when she reunites with her old Luis (Alejandro Hernandez) a culinary genius with an empanada shop. Dolores then sets up her massage parlor snapping necks and exacting her revenge on those who wronged at the same time supplying Luis with meat for his creations.
The series cast and crew was met by a press line of photographers and reports as well as an enthusiastic crowd at the SVA Theater in Manhattan as part of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. When asked how she felt about seeing the film with an audience for the first time, Jessica Pimental who plays Flora Flores in the series said, “I cannot wait for the reactions. I cannon wait to see how they take it. I wanna hear where they laugh. I wanna hear where they shriek… It will leave you gasping! It will leave your laughing! It will leave you cheering! I’m really hyping it up. That’s how excited I am about the project!”
