The 9th Annual Winter Film Awards International Film Festival

On Friday, February 21, at the Cinema Village theater on 12th street in Manhattan, the Winter Film Awards kicked off its screening series. The festival boasts a wide array of films: shorts, features, documentaries, and fictional/narratives from all over the world. The opening night’s program included several shorts including three shorts and a music video and a feature film from the UK.

According the to festival’s website the Winter Film Awards “Showcases films from emerging filmmakers from around the world in all genres, with a special emphasis on highlighting the work of women and underrepresented filmmakers. The 79 Official Selections are a diverse mixture of 11 Animated films, 6 Documentaries, 10 Feature narratives, 11 Horror films, 11 Music Videos, 22 Narrative shorts and 7 Web series. These include 10 student films and 21 first-time filmmakers. Filmmakers come from 27 countries; half of the films were created by women, 53% were created by or about people of color.”

The festival will run throughout the weekend and will have screenings at Cinema Village, 22 East 12th Street. Screening blocks run 2 1⁄2 to 3 hours and include a mix of shorts and feature-length films., and all screening blocks include a 20 minute Q&A Session with the filmmakers.
