SOMEWHERE QUIET at Tribeca Film Festival
by Jason Godbey
This week Somewhere Quiet, a new psychological thriller/horror film from director, Oliva West Lloyd starring Jennifer Kim, Marin Ireland, and Kentucker Audley (pictured above) screened at the SVA Theater as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. Director and cast were on hand for the screening and stopped by to answer our questions.
Somewhere Quiet is a different take on the horror genre. The story follow a woman played by Jennifer Kim who is trying to return her life to normalcy after surviving a kidnapping. Director Lloyd describes it as a film that “imagines what might happens to a ‘final girl’ after the end of a horror movie… after the news has moved on, after people have started to move back into their regular lives, how does this person re-enter the mundane after such an extraordinary experience?”
When asked about the film’s impact star Jennifer Kim said, “I hope that it’ll make people think… there’s the horror genre which is like you know the ‘final girl’, but this takes what happens to the final girl after the horror movie is done. And it asks that question when the girl goes home and has no safety net or comfortable person to unpack everything with that happened to her, what could happen?… I think that’s pretty exciting. I don’t know that that has been investigated as deeply in horror movies… It’s the second chapter that people don’t really analyze.”
Somewhere Quiet is set to screen again this coming Wednesday, June 14th as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. For more information visit the film’s page on the festival site. And be sure to follow us here for more coverage.
