ONE SPOON OF CHOCOLATE at Tribeca Festival 2025
by Yasin Lago
The story follows a man nicknamed Unique (Shameik Moore), an ex-military now ex-con released from prison after a two-year bid for preventing a case of domestic violence rather violently. His parole officer allows Unique to live with his cousin Ramsey in Ohio for a fresh start. Upon arriving in town, Unique feels the tension of something no one wants to talk about. Eventually, he and Ramsey are confronted by a racist gang of thugs out for trouble.
Retaliation against the group spirals farther out of control, engulfing the entire town in a private war. This open aggression exposes the conspiracy of disappearances of random black men in the area and how the local authorities are involved. Amidst the chaos, our hero finds love and a cause — to defend his community against evil that has become normalized, seeking vengeance where there is no justice.
Starring Shameik Moore ( Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse), Blair Underwood ( Longlegs, Origin), Paris Jackson ( Swarm, American Horror Stories), Rockmond Dunbar ( Straw, Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist), Michael Harney ( The Iron Claw), RJ Cyler ( The Book of Clarence), Emyri Crutchfield, and Harry Goodwins, this is the 4th feature film by writer/director The RZA, one of the founding members and leader of Staten Island rap collective Wu-Tang Clan. His blood-soaked action thriller, inspired by the Blaxploitation film era of the 1970s, is both thought provoking and gut wrenching while also being a suspenseful revenger.
One Spoon of Chocolate is now screening part of Tribeca Festival. For more information on showtimes and tickets, visit the festival website, and be sure to follow us here for more festival coverage.
