NYWIFT ANNOUNCES TRIBECA FESTIVAL MEMBER SLATE
New York Women in Film & Television Announces 14 Projects from 15 Members for selected 2023 Tribeca Film Festival
NEW YORK, NY — June 5, 2023 — New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) is pleased to announce that 14 projects from 15 members have been officially selected for the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival. The festival takes place June 7–18, 2023, both virtually and in-person in New York City.
The 14 projects span nine categories and feature members of the NYWIFT community as directors, producers, cinematographers, casting directors, makeup artists, costumer designers, set photographers, location managers, and more. The news comes during NYWIFT’s annual Spring Community Building Membership Campaign, during which industry professionals are encouraged to join the 45-years-strong association advocating for inclusion, equality, diversity, and safe working environments in TV, film, and media.

Among the 15 members included is NYWIFT Board Member Joyce Pierpoline, co-producer of The Listener, an understated drama about a night in the life of a mental health helpline volunteer and a stirring testament to the power of empathy. The film, making its North American premiere in the Spotlight Narrative competition, is directed by Steve Buscemi and stars Tessa Thompson. Pierpoline recently attended NYWIFT’s panel and women filmmakers luncheon event in Cannes with CEO Cynthia Lopez, during which NYWIFT announced a forthcoming training and mentoring program in partnership with the Royal Film Commission — Jordan, sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Jordan.
“We are so excited to celebrate the North American premiere of The Listener at the Tribeca Festival in New York, home of the director, Steve Buscemi. I can’t wait for the Tribeca audience to discover Tessa Thompson’s incredible, singular performance,” said NYWIFT Board Member Joyce Pierpoline.
