================Coming to Theaters February 7th===========

Here’s what you need to know about the movie: In the follow-up to filmmaker Morrisa Maltz’s award-winning film The Unknown Country, Film Independent Spirit Awards nominee Jazzy is a portrait of Jasmine Bearkiller Shangreaux, a young Oglala Lakota girl growing up in Spearfish, South Dakota, from the ages of six to twelve. When Jazzy finds out her best friend Syriah is moving, she is confronted with the pains of growing up and the realities of the adult world. The film explores the lives and ever-changing relationships of their peer group as they leave the dreamlike world of childhood behind. The film stars Jasmine Bearkiller Shangreaux, Syriah Fool Head Means, Richard Ray Whitman, Raymond Lee, and Lily Gladstone. Watch the trailer.

Our take: We first heard about this film when it premiered at Tribeca last year. The trailer is captivating. This looks like a touching coming-of-age tale from a culture we don’t see that much in cinema today, and it seems reminiscent of the indie films that were made in the 90s. Jazzy was nominated for the John Cassavetes Award and Best Editing at the Film Independent Awards. On a side note, Jasmine Bearkiller Shangreaux and Amber Midthunder should make an action movie together for simply having the two of the coolest names in cinema.
