MILLI VANILLI Doc Premiers at Tribeca

Our coverage of the Tribeca Film Festival continues with Milli Vanilli the new documentary about the rise and fall (in)famous 90s pop duo. Director Luke Korem and the surviving member of the band, Fabrice Fab Morvan stopped on the red carpet to talk to us about the project.
When asked why this film/why now? Korem explained “I wanted to tell the story of Milli Vanilli, the story that people didn’t know, the human story, and I think, having done documentaries for quite some time now… in order to tell a personal story like this, it takes time, and you gotta be removed from when everything occurred… 30 years later, people were willing to sit down with us: record executives, the real singers, Fab… and open up in a way that hadn’t before.”
“It’s all about timing really,” Fab continued. “Luke came in my life.. and I felt like of all the people that approached me before, he was gonna be the one because he was genuine in his approach. He really wanted to tell the story.”
When asked how he felt about the process of looking back at his past, Fab described the experience as “therapeutic.” He went on to say, “I think it was very necessary for me to go through this process.. It has a lot to do with healing… Now I can look at the story objectively with distance, and it doesn’t hurt anymore. I don’t take it personally anymore.”
Mili Vanilli is set to screen at the Tribeca Film Festival today and Thursday. Visit the film’s page on the festival site for details. According to a recent press release by Paramount, they have acquired the documentary for their streaming platform, Paramount + where the film is set to premiere on streaming in this fall.
