Our No Rest for the Fest coverage of the Tribeca Film Festival continues with Fresh Kills a new film directed by Jennifer Esposito and starring Emily Bader. The film puts a female twist on the mob genre by telling the story of the Larusso family, an Italian-American family with ties to organized crime from the point of view of the women of the family.

Fresh Kills marks the directorial debut of Esposito who wrote the film as well who was thrilled to be a part of the festival. “It feels incredible especially after the journey of this film… This is something I’ve thought about since I was a kid… Through the years in my career I pitched it around… It was relentless in my head. It was something that would not let me put it down, and I had to do it. I just got tired of the roles I was seeing for myself. It’s like how much can you complain? Do something about it. So I did.”

This year Tribeca celebrated several films made by actors turned directors: The Listener by Steve Buscemi, Bucky F*cking Dent by David Duchovany, Maggie Moore(s) by John Slattery, Downtown Owl by Lilly Rabe and Hamish Linklater, and Shortcomings by Randall Park. We’ll be featuring our interview with Steve Buscemi about his feature on one of our upcoming Tribeca Film Festival recap episodes.
