[ATLANTA, GA — August 1, 2023 ] Award-winning producer Cait Cortelyou announces the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to bring free Shakespeare in the Park to Atlanta with a production of the Shakespeare comedy Twelth Night to be performed October 2023 in the Historic Old Fourth Ward Amphitheater in downtown Atlanta.

With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, theatre is more important than ever, and there is a
proven demand for this work. The last time free Shakespeare in the Park was offered in the city
of Atlanta — in 2014 by the now-closed Georgia Shakespeare Festival — audiences were as large
as 1800 people in a single night.

“Atlanta prides itself on being a cultural hub,” said Cortelyou. “I would contend that live theatre — and Shakespeare in particular! — is an essential element of arts and culture.”
With over 25 years of experience with Shakespeare, including at the Tony Award-winning O’Neill Theater Center, with Juilliard professors, and with members of the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon Avon, producer/director Cait Cortelyou is excited to present a production of Twelfth Night that is delightful, easy to understand, and most importantly funny!

“Shakespeare’s works have the power to move us, to make us laugh, to help us think about the
world in a new way,” added Cortelyou. “I believe that everyone deserves to have this experience — but rising ticket prices mean that the cost of attending the theatre is prohibitively expensive for many families. That’s why this production will be presented to the Atlanta community entirely for free!”
