Comedian/podcaster Marc Maron isn’t a household name, but he should be. He’s been working steadily for over five decades, and is likely most known for his WTF with Marc Maron podcast, which began in 2009, the very infant stages of the now ubiquitous format. Journalist and producer Julie Seabaugh saw the makings of a deep personal portrait of Maron after the subject lost his longtime girlfriend Lynn Shelton in the first few months of the COVID 19 lockdown to a rare blood disease. Baring his soul on his podcast and later onstage, Maron offered listeners and audiences an unrestricted view of his grief process, elevating comedy and performance to something universal.

The film Are We Good? dives even further into that transparency, following Maron as he returns to stage and maps out his ongoing career. Coming out on the heels of his decision to end the 16-year podcast, this film features interviews with Maron’s friends and contemporaries, including W. Kamau Bell, Nate Bargatze, Caroline Rhea, and John Mulaney to name but a few. This timely exploration of an enduring voice in comedy and a relatable portrait of humanity is a must-see for fans of Maron’s extensive career and those interested in the intersection of grief and comedy.
