On Friday June 7th, the latest effort from director Christine Jeffs premiered at the Tribeca Festival at the SVA Theater in Manhattan. Based on the novel of the same name by Carl Shuker, A Mistake stars Elizabeth Banks as a surgeon who finds herself in a difficult situation when she allows a young colleague to take the lead on a routine procedure that goes wrong. Banks is forced to deal with the repercussions facing the parents of the patient and the hospitals’ efforts to protect its reputation while she protects her colleague.

We were on the red carpet at SVA where we spoke to the director and one of the stars of the film, Mickey Sumner ( Snow Piercer) who plays a scrub nurse and Banks’ lover. Jeffs whose partner had suffered a medical misadventure saw the story as a personal one to her and anyone who had suffered similar circumstance. Sumner spoke about a surgery sequence that required her to train with a scrub nurse and surgeon. She also praised Jeffs efforts behind the camera and Banks’ performance.
